In 2015 I spent two seperate days exploring two of this nation’s treasures. A cold grey morning in the Grand Canyon gave way to a bright afternoon. The sun cast great shadows along the ridges and valleys of the deep ravines and made the facing rock seem to glow from inside. I spent a second scorching afternoon exploring the Hoover Dam and the collision of civil engineering precision with art-deco transcendence.
